Hot Water System

The Project

Issue:

Requiring smart relocation and compliant installation of a complex heat pump hot water system.

We recently completed a complex heat pump hot water system replacement where the original unit had been installed directly over the property’s overflow relief gully (ORG) — a critical drainage safety feature. This presented a major compliance issue and prevented safe reinstallation of the new unit in the same location.

Scope of work:

  • Safely disconnected and removed the existing split-system heat pump.
  • Identified a compliance issue: The previous unit blocked access to the ORG, which must remain unobstructed to allow sewer overflow outside the home during a blockage.
  • Consulted with all parties to discuss alternative locations. Once approval was obtained, we carefully relocated the new system — balancing compliance, functionality, and the space constraints of the property.
  • Supplied and installed a new heat pump hot water system.
  • Commissioned and tested the system to ensure correct operation and compliance.

Outcome:

Despite space and access challenges, we delivered a safe, compliant installation that will provide reliable hot water and protect the property’s drainage system.
