The Project

Issue:

CCTV inspection and root removal resolve recurring issue.

We were called to investigate and unblock a toilet. Upon investigating we found the stack needed repair. Rather than rush into a full stack replacement, we took a step-by-step approach to locate the issue, reduce unnecessary work, and minimise cost for the client.

Scope of work:

  • Performed a CCTV drain inspection to identify the cause and starting point of the blockage.
  • Found the upper stack to be well-supported and in good condition — no replacement required.
  • Replaced the lower section of the stack beneath the stairs, where the issue was concentrated.
  • Discovered a heavy blockage caused by root intrusion and toilet paper build-up.
  • Cleared the line using a high-pressure jetting machine.
  • Installed an inspection opening to provide easier future access for jetting and maintenance.
  • Repaired a small section of damaged PVC pipe and confirmed the rest of the drainage system was in working order.

Outcome:

By using CCTV to pinpoint the issue before cutting, we avoided unnecessary replacement of good pipework. The blockage was fully cleared, long-term access was added, and the system was left functioning properly.
